What is a Microchip
Microchipping is a safe and reliable way to identify pets. A microchip is a small, rice-grain-sized electronic chip that is injected under the skin of your pet. Encoded with a unique identification number, it helps shelters identify a pet’s family’s contact information.
Microchip Misconceptions
Microchipping has been around since the 1980s and has been a common practice for decades. However, there are still some common misconceptions that can deter people from microchipping their pets.
A major misconception is that microchips act as GPS trackers, which can track a pet and breach your privacy. Microchips aren’t GPS devices, they are tiny chips that contain an identification number which, when searched, usually contain your pet’s medical information and your contact information. The information on the chip can be read with a microchip scanner, and all identifying information is what you input when registering the microchip.
