As Operation Kindness Humane Society continues to celebrate our 50th anniversary, we are honored to be nominated for Best Nonprofit in the Dallas Observer Best of Dallas awards. While our organization started as a shelter to help pets find homes in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, we have expanded our services and impact across Texas.
Over just the past few years, we have strengthened families by providing accessible, low-cost wellness services to ensure pets stay with their loved ones. Our Dallas St. Clair Pet Food Pantry, which originally opened in August 2017 and operated in a small trailer at the end of our shelter’s parking lot, has grown significantly. Today, our pantry has served nearly 55,000 pets during the last fiscal year and has transformed into a drive-thru-style distribution in a neighboring lot to keep up with its growing traffic.
We have continued to increase access to affordable veterinary care in North Texas and beyond. This July, our community initiatives team traveled to El Paso to participate in a Spay-A-Thon event. Through our partnership with El Paso Animal Services, we served over 130 pets and were grateful to support our shelter partner.
As we deepen our impact, finding homes for pets remains the heart of our mission. Over the past twelve months, we adopted 5,916 cats and dogs. Watching pets meet their new families is what has fueled our mission for 50 years — and the memories they create together are why we keep going.
