Operation Kindness in Need of Homes for Ringworm Kittens Following Central Texas Flood Rescue Efforts

Kitten with ringworm

Embark into the fungal jungle and set sail on new quests with your new furry friend today! Operation Kindness is currently operating at full capacity with ringworm-positive kittens, a condition requiring treatment and resources over a 30-day period, following intake efforts after the Central Texas floods. We are urgently seeking individuals to join our foster to adopt program by caring for kittens being treated for ringworm, with the opportunity to adopt for free once they’ve fully recovered.

Pets awaiting or undergoing noncritical medical treatment — like ringworm — or that are too young for formal adoption, can be placed with interested adopters as foster pets. All medical supplies and training will be covered by Operation Kindness. Once the pet has completed their treatment, the foster can adopt their new best friend for completely free.

“Ringworm sounds scarier than it is, but with treatment it is highly manageable,” said Kate Collier, medical practice manager at Operation Kindness. “Most ringworm cats and kittens are playful, sweet and ready for love — they just need a little extra TLC while they heal.”

Despite its name, ringworm is not a worm. It is a skin infection caused by fungus and usually takes shelter pets 6-8 weeks to fully recover. However, with a low stress foster home and plenty of love, treatment time can be significantly reduced. While in foster care, ringworm-positive kittens will need lime sulfur dips twice a week, oral medication and checkups with the Operation Kindness medical team. All medical treatment, supplies and training will be provided while the pet is in foster care.

Fostering a kitten while recovering from treatment helps decrease shelter capacity and allows more vulnerable pets to receive care. Foster to adopt sign-ups can be completed before or after meeting your foster pet, and you can take your foster home the same day you meet them. Our client services team will assist in identifying foster to adopt pets and walk you through the process.

For any community members unable to foster or adopt at this time but would like to assist, we are always in need of donations of supplies on our Amazon Wishlist. This allows you to send exactly what we need directly to us, ensuring your donation has maximum impact.
