To celebrate 50 years of creating a kinder world for pets and the people who love them, Operation Kindness Humane Society is dedicating February to looking back on how powerful collaborations have saved lives.
Collaborating to Create Affordable Care for Pets

On August 30-31, 2025, our Community Initiatives team partnered with the Alpine Humane Society to host a community spay/neuter and wellness clinic in Terlingua, Texas. For the rural Texas town with fewer than 10,000 residents within its county, accessible and affordable veterinary care is scarce.
Our team, along with staff from the Alpine Humane Society, performed 115 spay/neuter surgeries and provided wellness care for 61 pets during the two-day event. This partnership allowed us to witness firsthand how breaking down barriers for veterinary care can transform lives for those in underserved communities.
Mentoring to Save Lives

Three years ago, we joined Best Friends Animal Society’s collaborative program to foster mentorship with local shelters that had yet to achieve a 90% lifesaving rate. Building on a preexisting relationship our intake team had with Glen Rose Animal Control, and through the support of Best Friends, we happily stepped in to provide mentorship to the municipal shelter.
Christy Wilson, Glen Rose’s lead animal control officer, managed the city’s animal shelter by herself for over 400 days before our organization began mentoring them. Now, Christy has the support of staff from Operation Kindness Humane Society, which opened capacity for the shelter to host adoption events, launch a TNR program and end 2025 with an 87% lifesaving rate!
We are proud of the lives saved by becoming a mentor and look forward to continuing to provide resources and guidance to shelters like Glen Rose Animal Control.
Partnering to Help Pets in Urgent Need

In early February 2026, we joined forces with Humane World for Animals, the Runnels County Sheriff’s Office and the Humane Society of Greater Kansas. Our team was able to step in to provide lifesaving care for more than 70 animals suspected to be victims of animal cruelty in Ballinger, Texas.
This joint effort gave each animal a second chance in life, while teaching us the importance of unity and spreading kindness. We are grateful to work with organizations beyond North Texas that share our commitment to providing pets with a safe, new beginning.
Building Partnerships with Our Community

Rosa, our community resources manager, met Mr. Cardenas and his granddaughter, Isabela, while performing community outreach seven years ago. There, the pair eagerly introduced Rosa to their sweet orange tabby cat, Chavela.
Seven years after their initial meeting, Isabela and Mr. Cardenas arrived at one of our monthly vaccine and microchip clinics, having faith that Rosa and our staff would take care of their two family dogs. Because of the relationships our team fosters with community members, there is confidence in our work and a lasting partnership built on trust. United by a shared love of pets, we work together every day to keep animals safe, healthy, and at home where they belong.
