When the floods hit Central Texas in the early hours of July 4, 2025, Operation Kindness quickly stepped up and offered aid to local shelters along with their communities. Our efforts enabled surrounding shelters to take in new pets displaced during the storm and provided relief for families struggling to care for their pets by hosting a free food pantry.
Supporting Pets and People in Challenging Times
Overall, 125 dogs and cats were transferred into our care in hopes of finding new families in North Texas and over 4,000 pounds of pet food were distributed. Once the pets arrived, they were greeted with vet exams to ensure they were given the necessary medical treatment to keep them happy and healthy. With 48 animals being diagnosed with upper respiratory infections and 24 cats testing positive for ringworm, our veterinary staff worked tirelessly to ensure every pet remained comfortable during their stay with us.
A Senior Pup’s Resilience in the Face of Adversity
Some pets needed a little extra attention before they started their new journey, like the sweet senior pup Gerald. After a busy day of travelling from Williamson County to our shelter in Carrollton, Gerald was treated for scaly skin and ear infections. While receiving treatment, our medical staff noticed a mass in his right hind leg, which they promptly scheduled to be surgically removed. Despite all this, Gerald’s tail continues to wag in glee and looks forward to finishing his recovery in a foster home.
We are proud of our disaster relief efforts and are eager to see the remaining dogs and cats that came into our care in the midst of chaos leave with their new loving families. Our work is only made possible with your support, thank you.
