Volunteers help keep Operation Kindness Humane Society running and drive our mission forward. With more than 500 active volunteers on our team, we are excited to announce expanded volunteer opportunities you can join!
From hands-on animal care to community outreach, there is a place on our team for everyone. Learn more about the six new roles:
Playgroup Runner
Get ready to move, play and make a difference! As a playgroup runner, you’ll safely escort dogs from their kennels to the play yards, help them get settled in with their furry friends, and support staff as the dogs socialize.
Your time and energy can turn an ordinary shelter day into a day filled with play, enrichment and positive experiences.
Adoption Ambassadors
Help pets meet their people! Adoption ambassadors are passionate matchmakers who help shelter pets put their best paw forward and connect with people looking for a new family member.
You will receive specialized training from our staff to prepare you for success. Adoption ambassadors help potential adopters learn about available pets, answer questions and create positive adoption experiences.
Ambassadors can serve in a variety of ways — at our main shelter, at off-site adoption events or out in the community with adoptable dogs. Wherever you serve, you’ll play an important role in helping pets get noticed and find loving families.
Track Pack
Track Pack volunteers meet on Saturday and Sunday mornings to give our shelter dogs the chance to stretch their legs, explore the community and enjoy some time outside the shelter.
Volunteers can choose a dog they feel comfortable handling and take them on either a gentle run or a leisurely stroll, the pace is up to you!
Enrichment
Enrichment volunteers play an incredibly important role in helping our canine and feline residents stay happy and mentally stimulated while they wait for adoption. Volunteers can help in two ways: at home with an enrichment kit, or at the shelter by signing up to give enrichment to pets.
Enrichment helps animals have positive experiences, exercise their minds and break up the routine of shelter life.
Community Outreach Volunteers
Take our mission beyond the shelter and into the community! Community Outreach Volunteers help connect pet owners with programs, services and resources designed to keep pets with the people who love them.
Volunteers may join us at community events and tabling opportunities or participate in door-to-door canvassing. You’ll talk with community members about available resources, including our free spay and neuter programs, upcoming clinics, and other services we offer.
Dallas Pet Food Pantry Volunteers
Pet Food Pantry Volunteers help provide pet food and supplies to families who may need a little extra support caring for their pets. At our Dallas-based Pet Food Pantry events, volunteers help welcome community members, organize and distribute pet food, load supplies into vehicles and assist with other event needs throughout the day.
These events can be busy and hands-on, so volunteers should come ready to work as a team, interact with the community and distribute pet food and supplies. Every bag of food distributed can help remove one more barrier for a family working to keep their pet at home.
