At Operation Kindness, our goal is to provide shelter, medical treatment and love for the animals in our care while we help them search for their new families. Last year, we took in 7,074 animals and we continue to grow that number. With our goal of helping as many animals as possible, we are looking to expand the number of volunteers in 2025 to help us achieve our mission. How to qualify as a volunteer at Operation Kindness
We welcome volunteers that have different backgrounds and animal handling experience to join our team! Volunteers are required to be at least 16 years old and participate in mandatory training. There are a variety of areas and training courses for volunteers to choose from depending on what interests you the most!
Medical Support
We are in demand for medical volunteers! Our medical team is looking for volunteers who would like to aid pets that need a little extra help medically. Since our shelter is a medically focused facility, we have dogs and cats that are transferred to Operation Kindness specifically for lifesaving treatment. In 2025, we hope to have more volunteers interested in supporting our medical wing. Volunteers aid with kennel sanitizing, socialization, dog walking, ringworm dips, parvo puppy cuddling and much more!
Animal Care Support
Daily kennel sanitization, laundry and feeding pets are some of the main tasks animal care volunteers are responsible for. By joining the animal care team, you play a vital role in ensuring that every animal in our care is comfortable and happy. Plus, volunteers interested in joining this role can help at any of our daily adoption locations!
Pet Food Pantry
If you have a busy schedule but still want the chance to volunteer, you can join our pet food pantry volunteers! This opportunity is available every Thursday and Sunday. Our pantry provides community support to individuals seeking assistance with pet supplies. In 2023, we handed out over 154,000 pounds of food, treats and litter to community members at our pet food pantry. Volunteers provide support in greeting clients and completing applications as well as aiding with fulfilling orders.
Animal Shelter Volunteer Opportunities for Children
We also have plenty of opportunities for children to get involved at the shelter! We host monthly Family Volunteer and Youth Days, which allow younger children to engage in hands-on activities, behind-the-scenes shelter tours and the chance to interact with animals.
