Operation Kindness Humane Society’s Community Initiatives team traveled over 500 miles south to Terlingua, TX, in late August. In partnership with Alpine Humane Society, the region’s local animal welfare organization, our team completed 105 free spay/neuter surgeries for community pets.
From Aug. 28-29, we helped host a free spay/neuter clinic for cats and dogs at the Red Patillo Community Center. During the two-day clinic, we met so many wonderful pet owners and worked alongside local animal rescue groups.
Last year, we visited the Terlingua community for the first time and provided wellness care and surgeries for more than 100 pets. Seeing how lives were transformed because of our work made us eager to return and help even more local animals.
Our mission to create a kinder world for pets and the people who love them extends beyond North Texas. Despite Terlingua’s remote location, we remain committed to providing pets there with affordable and accessible care, no matter the distance. As we continue to expand our impact, underserved communities remain at the forefront of our work.
The spay/neuter surgeries were funded through the Texas Department of State Health Services’ Spay/Neuter Program (TxSNP). In April 2026, we were awarded $1 million through this funding, allowing us to provide care for shelter partners and community pets around Texas.
