An important COVID-19 update

Operation Kindness Blog - COVID-19 update | North Texas No-Kill Animal Shelter

Updated on March 24, 2020 |

Following guidance on social distancing, Operation Kindness will remain closed to the public until further notice.

Because we recognize the community need for pet food and supplies, the Pet Food Pantry will be open by appointment only on Thursdays from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. To make an appointment, call 972-418-7297 between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. If you do not have an appointment, you will not be able to pick up from the pantry.

As we continue to respond to the evolving COVID-19/Coronavirus situation, we wanted to share an update on the steps Operation Kindness is taking. Our priority has always been the health and safety of our animals, staff, volunteers, and our community.

In an effort to do our part to keep our community safe and healthy, we’ve made the difficult decision to close the shelter and the Pet Food Pantry to the public through at least Tuesday, March 31. We believe this is the responsible decision to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Here at Operation Kindness, our staff is like family. During the closure, all staff members will continue to receive their regular pay.

While we are closed to the public, our animals will continue to receive the very best care from our medical and animal care teams. From walks, meals, outdoor playtime, and lots of chin scratches – our dedicated staff will tend to their every need.

In preparation for this decision, we started proactively managing the number of animals in our care by reducing intake and increasing adoptions. Over the past week, 82 animals were adopted into new homes. Of the remaining animals in our care, as many as possible will be placed into foster homes. If you are interested in fostering, we encourage you to sign up to provide a temporary home for a dog or cat.

We continue to closely monitor all Centers for Disease Control and local health authority updates as the situation continues to evolve – and we will use these recommendations to inform our decisions. We’ll keep you updated of any changes to our plans by email, our website, and social media. Our focus remains on keeping you and our entire community safe and healthy, while providing the best possible care for our animals.

We know this is a concerning time and our thoughts are with those who have been impacted. Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.

As always, thank you for everything that you do for the animals.
