Kittens are coming

Kitten Season is Coming | Operation Kindness

Kitten season is almost here

In Texas, kitten season typically runs from March to October. During these months, there is a significant increase in the number of kittens being born.

While female cats can give birth year-round, it’s easier for them to reproduce when the weather is warmer and days are longer. Cats can also continue to birth litter after litter until the season ends, producing several litters in a single year. That’s why so many new kittens are born during these months!

Being surrounded by tiny, fluffy kittens sounds like a dream. But in reality, the upswing in kittens puts a strain on animal shelters. Orphaned kittens require round-the-clock care and bottle feedings. These vulnerable animals are very susceptible to illness, so they must be moved into a foster home as quickly as possible.

Here’s how you can help.

> Become a foster

Foster families are critical to a successful kitten season. Shelters rely on fosters to care for kittens and nursing cats in a home environment. Caring for them in a home protects cats and kittens from illness. They are also able to receive diligent care and socialization.

When you foster with Operation Kindness, we’ll provide all the supplies and training needed. We recommend signing up now! Then you’ll be trained and ready to go once kitten season begins.

> Send kitten supplies

Navigating kitten season requires a variety of specialty supplies. Orphaned kittens need bottles, formulas, and warming discs. Nursing mothers need comfy beds and lots of nutritious food. All cats and kittens need litter, litter boxes, and toys!

You can help by sending a donation of supplies from our Amazon Wish List. Your donation will help make sure a foster family has everything they need to help cats and kittens this year.

> Adopt a cat or kitten

Of course, the ultimate gift a cat can receive is a loving home! Adopting a cat or kitten during kitten season makes space for more animals to be saved.
