PLANNED GIVING - A LEGACY FOR THE ANIMALS

Ensure a Future for Homeless Animals by Including Operation Kindness in your Estate Plan
Your legacy can live on for the homeless animals in our community when you include Operation Kindness in your will. Making a gift to Operation Kindness through your estate is one of the most charitable and effective ways to ensure that we can carry on our mission to save animals' lives far into the future.

Gifts through your Will or Living Trust

By including a bequest to Operation Kindess in your will, you enable us to continue our work of rescuing, rehabilitating and protecting homeless, unwanted and abused animals.

All bequests left to Operation Kindness, no matter what the size, provide much needed resources and may allow you to take advantage of favorable charitable deduction tax laws. A bequest does not have to be cash, but may take other forms including, life insurance, securities, mineral rights and real estate.

A gift to Operation Kindness through your will or living trust is a powerful statement of your concern for our companion animal friends and of your support for Operation Kindness' mission to provide quality care for homeless and unwanted dogs and cats in a no-kill environment until they are adopted into their forever homes.

The most common planned gift is a bequest of cash through your will or living trust. You can arrange for a gift of a specific amount, a percentage of your estate, or even all or part of the residuary of your estate. If you would like to make such a gift, your attorney may wish to include language similar to the following:

"I hereby give and bequeath to Operation Kindness, a nonprofit Texas corporation now or formerly located at 3201 Earhart Drive, Carrollton, Texas 75006, Federal Tax ID number 75-1553350, the sum of $ ____ in cash (or "x" percent of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate), to be used for its general purposes." (or specify a specific purpose or program).

If you already have a will, you can add a codicil with a bequest to Operation Kindness. Your attorney will need to know the Operation Kindness is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit Texas charitable organization with the place of business located at 3201 Earhart Drive, Carrollton, TX 75006.
Our Federal Tax ID is #75-1553350.

If you do not have an attorney and would like to discuss the possibility of writing a simple will, we may be able to consult with you.

Other Planned Giving Opportunities

A gift of Life Insurance or Retirement Plan Beneficiary Designation to Operation Kindness is a simple and smart way to provide for the animals at Operation Kindness and may result in favorable tax benefits for your heirs. Operation Kindness can be named owner and beneficiary of an existing fully paid policy, or you may purchase a new policy naming Operation Kindness as owner and beneficiary. Discuss the possibilities of planned giving through life insurance with your life insurance consultant.

Retirement Plans
Retirement plan assets are among the best assets to use for charitable gifts. You can create a legacy by naming Operation Kindness as beneficiary or contingent beneficiary of an IRA, 401(k), 403 (b), Keogh account, or other qualified retirement plan. Upon your death, all or a portion of the unused balance in your account is transferred to Operation Kindness as a charitable gift.

When a retirement account is left to a charity, the organization does not pay the income tax otherwise due if left to a friend or non-spouse family member. To make such a gift requires merely completing a Change of Beneficiary form, which may be obtained from the plan administrator.

Charitable Remainder Trusts can provide an income stream for life for you and also give you favorable tax treatment. The gift in trust can be cash, stock or other property and it is administered by a designated trustee. As the income beneficiary, you receive the income for life and then at the time of your death, the remaining principal goes to the designated charity. There are also other types of trusts that can benefit you as well as Operation Kindness. Talk with your financial planner or contact us for more information.

Gifts of stock offer two-fold tax savings. First, you avoid paying capital gains tax on the increase in value of your stock. Also, you receive a tax deduction for the full market value of the stock on the date of the gift.

Donations of real estate may provide particular advantages and tax savings. If you have owned a piece of real estate for many years, it may have appreciated in value to the point that capital gains taxes will be exceptionally high if it is sold. By donating this property to Operation Kindness, you may avoid the capital gains tax burden, yet realize a charitable deduction for the fair market value of the property. Favorable tax treatment may also be afforded with a gift of long-term appreciated securities. Please discuss this with your tax advisor. (Please note that Operation Kindness may choose to decline certain gifts of real estate. We’ll be happy to discuss this further with you.)

A Lasting Legacy of Love
More and more people are concerned with providing care for their companion animals should their pets outlive them. We would be happy to discuss your pets’ future with you and talk about ways Operation Kindness might be able to help.

By making a bequest to Operation Kindness, we will be able to continue our mission of saving homeless and unwanted animals and finding them loving, forever homes. We strive to continue to be a leader in our community in promoting humane values through awareness and education, and to be a voice for abused and neglected animals.

Your love for animals is evident in life, and your legacy can live on long after you’re gone.

Operation Kindness would be honored to be included in your estate planning. We would be happy to meet with you and your accountant, attorney or financial planner to explore planned giving opportunities that will benefit you and the homeless animals in our care. For more details on any of these opportunities, or to schedule an appointment, please Email us.. or call 972-418-PAWS (7297) x226.

Thank You for caring about homeless and abused animals!
