Regular Full-time position available
Start Date: Immediate
- Care for, diagnose and treat all shelter animals.
- Perform early spay and neuter (two pounds or two months) based on vet's discretion and health of the animal.
- Performs surgical procedures including but not
limited to: eye enucleations, bladder stone surgery, hernia repair, c-sections, amputations, FHOs, dentals, etc.
- Oversee health of all Operation Kindness shelter animals.
- Oversee and/or perform heartworm treatments.
- Oversee the ordering of all medical and surgical supplies.
- Serve as vet of record for the shelter and maintain drug log as required by law.
- Perform rabies vaccinations for shelter animals.
- Write prescriptions for medications to be sent home with adopted shelter pets.
- Occasional euthanasia for humane or behavioral reasons.
- Degree in veterinary medicine.
- Experience in current veterinary medical
and surgical procedures.
- Work in 7-year-old, 10,000 square foot, freestanding facility on four acres of land.
- Vet staff includes four vet techs, two vet tech assistants and one manager.
- Fully equipped surgery room. Three separate isolation rooms. Large treatment room.
- Minimal contact with the public.
- Shelter houses approximately 200 animals (100 dogs and 100 cats) at one time.
- Malpractice insurance paid by Operation Kindness.
- Shelter will pay for all license and registration fees, continuing education seminar fees, as well as DLVMA, TVMA and AVMA dues.
- 40 hours per
week. Days and hours to be determined.
On call as needed.
