BOOKKEEPER

Regular Part-time position available

Start Date: Immediate

Position RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Bookkeeper is responsible for reconciling all accounts to Financial Edge, bank statements and credit card statements; preparing regular financial reports; compiling data for 990 filing and the shelter audits; all Accounts Payable; and developing written bookkeeping and accounting procedures and internal controls.
  • Pays, on a weekly basis, all invoices forwarded by the Controller.
    Reconciles all accounts to Financial Edge, receipts and bank statements.
  • Performs monthly credit cards transaction reconciliations to the credit card statements and bank statements based on daily reconciliations received.
  • Verifies deposits prepared by the Controller
  • Prepares the End of the Month Report, Financial reports and balance sheet and Monthly Summary Report.
  • Collects data for the 990 filing and assists in preparation.
  • Prepares audit information and works with the auditors through the process.
  • Develops written bookkeeping and accounting procedures for the shelter.
  • Maintain all financial and internal controls.

General RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reports suspicion of animal abuse or neglect to Controller, Director of Animal Care, or Executive Director immediately.
  • Reports any unsafe working conditions to Controller, Director of Animal Care, or Executive Director immediately.
  • Maintains client, donor, volunteer and staff confidentiality at all times.
  • Follows Standard Precautions and other safety regulations at all times.
  • Completes all necessary and requested training in a timely manner in accordance with shelter policy.
  • Attends staff meetings.
  • Performs other duties as requested by Director of Operations, Executive Director or other senior manager.

POSITION REQUIRMENTS

  • B.A. in Finance or accounting; CPA preferred.
  • At least three years experience managing fiscal responsibility of an agency, non-profit preferred, including financial reporting.
  • Computer proficiency with MS Office, Excel required. Proficiency with Financial Edge a plus.

  • Supports Operation Kindness’s mission and understands how it is organized and functions as a non-profit organization.
  • Has a positive attitude; is open to new ideas.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work with discretion and exercise independent judgment.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Flexible work style and ability to multi task.
  • Attention to detail and self-initiating.
  • Physical Effort: Position requires lifting and carrying animals and shelter materials weighting up to 40 lb as needed; when animals or materials weigh over 40 lbs, another staff member will assist in the lifting and carrying. Position also requires sitting or standing for extended periods of time and speaking over the telephone.
  • Working conditions: May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises and animal feces. May be exposed to bites, scratches and animal diseases.
